Terradot Acquires Eion to Expand Carbon Removal Technologies through Enhanced Rock Weathering
CARBON CAPTURE
Terradot, a U.S. startup backed by Google, has acquired Eion to diversify and expand its carbon removal capabilities. Both companies focus on enhanced rock weathering (ERW), a method of using crushed rocks to capture CO₂ from the atmosphere.
The merger aims to leverage over 400,000 tons of carbon removal credits, including a significant contract with Frontier. Despite the scientific validity of ERW, challenges remain in scalability and energy demands. The carbon credit market is experiencing investment slowdowns, making consolidation necessary for survival.
