The Generation IV International Forum: Advancing Global Nuclear Technology Collaboration

Initiated by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2000, the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) is a collaborative platform for 13 countries committed to developing next-generation nuclear technologies.

With members including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and the European Union, GIF focuses on sharing research and development efforts rather than constructing reactors. The forum has selected six reactor technologies for further research, emphasizing safety, sustainability, and non-proliferation. While significant advancements have been made, challenges remain, particularly concerning regulatory harmonization and technology integration among member nations.
