Toyota Invests in FirstElement Fuel to Enhance California's Hydrogen Infrastructure
Toyota Motor North America has announced a strategic investment in FirstElement Fuel Inc. to strengthen California's hydrogen infrastructure, expanding its network to 92 fueling spots across 38 locations. This initiative aims to support fuel cell electric vehicles, particularly for heavy-duty fleets, by providing quick refueling options that enhance operational efficiency.
At the ACT Expo in April 2025, Toyota introduced its Gen 3 fuel cell system, which offers improved efficiency and power density. This investment aligns with Toyota's broader strategy that includes a battery plant in North Carolina, allowing the company to address passenger and freight electrification simultaneously. The ultimate goal is to transition to green hydrogen produced via renewable energy sources, contributing to decarbonization and supporting Toyota's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050.
