Tüpra, Turkey's largest oil refiner, is spearheading the Sunfusion project to develop sustainable aviation fuel from microalgae and yeasts utilizing solar energy. The initiative, backed by €3 million from the EU's Horizon Europe program, aims to achieve over 50% efficiency in converting solar energy to biocrude by 2028. With ten international partners, Tüpra plans to cultivate high lipid microalgae and is on track to produce sustainable aviation fuel by 2024, marking a significant step in decarbonizing the aviation sector.
