UAB Launches SARGEX Project to Address Sargassum Algae Threat in Europe

The UAB has initiated the SARGEX project to manage Sargassum algae proliferation threatening European coasts. Coordinated by Mercè Llugany and Gustavo Pérez, the four-year project aims to convert Sargassum into bio-based products, enhancing sustainability in line with EU strategies. The consortium includes six European and three Cuban partners and is funded by Horizon Europe with a budget of €886,770.
