The Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency (UCRRA) has chosen Global NRG Renewables to implement a waste diversion project aimed at processing 65% of the county's 100,000 tons of municipal solid waste annually using biogas conversion technology. The project, which includes the construction of three digesters and a Material Recovery Facility, is set to begin in April 2026 and aims for 90% waste diversion by 2050, with a budget exceeding $100 million funded through tipping fees. Currently, waste is transported 250 miles to a landfill, costing the county $10 million each year.
