UECCC Approves 92 Companies for Clean Energy Subsidy Programme in Uganda
The Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company (UECCC) has approved 92 Energy Service Companies to implement a results-based financing price subsidy programme aimed at reducing the market price of clean energy technologies. The subsidies will be passed directly to end-users, lowering upfront costs and promoting adoption.
The approved companies are required to supply quality products certified by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards. Discounts include 50% off solar lighting, 40% off solar systems with two lights, and reductions on ethanol cook stoves, biogas digesters, liquefied petroleum gas, and electric pressure cookers.
Additionally, discounts of 60% apply to energy equipment for productive uses such as water pumping and grain milling. Beneficiaries must present a national identity card and pay the discounted price. UECCC also conducted a regional activation in Hoima City to raise awareness of affordable clean energy solutions supported by the World Bank.
