UK Climate Aid Spending on Nature Protection Reaches Record Levels Amid Funding Challenges
CARBON CAPTURE
According to government data, UK climate aid spending on nature protection and restoration reached nearly £800 million last year, putting the nation on track to fulfill its five-year pledge of £3 billion by 2026. While funding for forest protection increased, it requires an additional £100 million this year to meet a £1.5 billion target.
The majority of last year's funding stemmed from a controversial £153.9 million project supporting carbon offsetting in developing countries. Despite significant cuts to the aid budget, the UK aims to maintain its climate finance commitments while addressing the biodiversity finance gap.
