UK Secures Record 8.4GW Offshore Wind Contracts in Historic Auction
WIND ENERGY
The UK Government has secured a record 8.4GW of offshore wind capacity through its Contracts for Difference Auction Round 7, enough to power 12 million homes and attracting £22 billion in private investment. This initiative is expected to create approximately 7,000 jobs and highlights a significant shift towards energy independence, with the average cost of fixed offshore wind at £90.91 per megawatt hour, notably cheaper than gas generation. The projects, located in regions such as Dogger Bank and Norfolk Vanguard, underscore the UK's commitment to achieving clean power by 2030.
