The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is conducting stakeholder consultations for the Sustainable Energy from Biogas for Solomon Islands (SENBIOSIS) project, funded by Italy's Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. The project, set to run from January 2026 to July 2028 with a budget of USD 1.58 million, aims to improve access to clean energy in off-grid rural areas by promoting biogas technology.

It will establish at least 10 biogas plants utilizing pig waste from commercial farms in Guadalcanal and Malaita Provinces, potentially reducing 2,890 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually. The project is co-led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification, with UNDP overseeing implementation. It supports the Solomon Islands' climate mitigation efforts and aligns with national commitments.
