CARBON CAPTURECLIMATE POLICY, REGULATION & CARBON MARKETS
The UNEP has recognized thicket restoration in South Africa's Klein Karoo as a World Restoration Flagship, boosting efforts to restore the biome's spekboom cover. Various private operators, alongside government initiatives, have planted approximately 30,000 hectares of spekboom, with an additional 25,000 hectares by private developers.
Funding for these projects has reached around $75 million, with efforts focused on carbon credit generation. Challenges remain in coordination and ensuring sustainable practices among numerous independent initiatives.
