Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has urged Indian sugar producers to diversify their operations by exploring ethanol diesel blending and green hydrogen production, citing an impending sugar surplus. Speaking at the Indian Sugar Bio Energy Conference 2025, he highlighted the need to develop sugar-related products and emphasized the importance of reducing fossil fuel imports to mitigate pollution. Gadkari pointed out that while India's sugar production is expected to rise significantly, farmers could benefit from increased income through ethanol initiatives, ultimately positioning them as energy producers alongside food producers.
