U.S. Army Corps Proposes Beneficial Use of Dredged Material for Projects in Delaware

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to dredge the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, utilizing two-thirds of the 90,000 cubic yards of sediment for local projects, including shoreline stabilization at Thompson Island and filling a lagoon at Sussex County's wastewater facility. A $9.6 million contract was awarded to Cottrell Contracting Corporation for the dredging operations, expected to start in fall 2026.
