U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has expressed regret over the recent detainment of over 300 South Korean nationals at a Georgia battery plant, which he aims to address in ongoing trade negotiations with South Korea.
Industry Minister Kim Jung Kwan highlighted the incident's negative impact on bilateral relations, especially concerning a $350 billion investment pledge made by Seoul in exchange for reduced tariffs. As negotiations continue, Kim emphasized the necessity of strengthening ties with the U.S. while also advocating for domestic energy initiatives, including new nuclear power projects and advancing AI in manufacturing.
