VA Tech Wabag and ION Exchange Positioned for Growth in India's Ultra-Pure Water Market

India's semiconductor ambitions rely heavily on clean water resources, with the semiconductor industry projected to utilize approximately 12 lakh megalitres of water annually. VA Tech Wabag and ION Exchange are emerging as key players supplying ultra-pure water (UPW) necessary for semiconductor manufacturing, solar plants, and data centers.

Wabag has secured an order for a UPW and effluent treatment plant for a solar facility in Hyderabad, predicting demand for UPW to reach 100 to 150 MLD by 2028. The company reported a revenue increase of 18.2% to ₹1,568.5 crore in FY26's first half.

ION Exchange, focusing on high-purity water solutions, achieved a revenue of ₹1,317 crore, with a current order book of ₹2,710 crore. Both companies are leveraging technological advancements to enhance water treatment solutions, positioning themselves as essential contributors to India's water management amid growing infrastructure demands.
