Vinssen has developed a class-approved fuel cell system for an ammonia-fuelled tanker concept, featuring six 2 MW fuel cell modules to power a 115,000 DWT LR2 tanker. The design incorporates an ammonia cracking system for onboard hydrogen production and aims to establish safety and regulatory standards for ammonia-based fuel cell systems. This project is a collaboration with MISC Berhad and Samsung Heavy Industries, focusing on the application of fuel cell technology in large tankers.
