Virginia Natural Gas has received approval for a $31 million renewable natural gas project at HRSD's Atlantic Treatment Plant in Virginia Beach. The project will convert biogas from wastewater treatment into pipeline-quality natural gas, producing over 200,000 MMBtu annually, sufficient for heating around 5,000 homes. Construction is set to start later this year, with operations expected to begin in 2027, aligning with Virginia's Energy Innovation Act of 2022.
