Wando County, South Korea, is partnering with the U.S. Department of Energy on a five-year project aimed at advancing offshore seaweed farming technology from 2025 to 2029. The initiative, supported by 300 researchers from 29 organizations, seeks to develop mass-scale seaweed farming and blue carbon utilization, with a test bed established in Cheongsan-myeon, leveraging Wando's prominence as Korea's largest seaweed producer. Key objectives include creating biomass utilization technology and establishing a foundation for Blue Carbon certification.
