SEMICONDUCTOR
The WIBASE project in Finland is advancing wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductor technologies to improve energy efficiency in electric vehicles, charging stations, and smart electrical grids. Funded by Business Finland with an €11 million budget, the initiative involves a consortium including VTT, Aalto University, and ABB, and aims to enhance Finland's competitiveness in the global semiconductor market while supporting EU Green Deal targets. Commercial applications of WBG technologies are expected by 2028-2030, with new materials anticipated within 5-10 years.
