World's First Carbon-Storing Pedestrian Bridge Made of Recycled Concrete Unveiled in Netherlands
CARBON CAPTURE
In Rosmalen, Netherlands, Paebbl and Heijmans have unveiled the world's first pedestrian bridge made from recycled, CO₂-neutral concrete that captures and stores carbon dioxide. The seven-meter-long structure utilizes 75% circular raw materials and incorporates technology that replaces 30% of traditional cement with carbon-storing materials, allowing it to permanently store 66 kilograms of CO₂. This innovative project marks a significant advancement in sustainable construction and carbon storage solutions.
