Xodus Group Study Finds Offshore Wind Viable for Guernsey with 30 MW Project Potential

WIND ENERGY

A study by Xodus Group indicates that a 30 MW offshore wind project could meet one third of Guernsey's electricity needs. The report identifies several technically feasible options for developing offshore wind off Guernsey's coast, recommending that most funding come from the States of Guernsey to minimize costs.

The preferred site is located offshore towards the 12nm boundary, suitable for floating wind turbine structures. A shallow water site off the north coast is considered the lowest cost option but may have visual and human impact concerns. The States of Guernsey Renewable Energy Team is advancing recommendations from the report, including a proposed wave and wind data gathering program.
