Yorkshire Water Completes £18M Upgrade to Dewsbury Wastewater Treatment Works
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION
Yorkshire Water has finalized an £18 million upgrade to the Dewsbury wastewater treatment works, enhancing water quality in the River Calder by significantly reducing phosphorus levels. The project, completed in partnership with BarhaleEnpureJV, involved replacing 14 Primary Settlement Tanks with three larger tanks, adding a chemical dosing plant, and creating a 2.5-hectare biodiversity area. Improvements exceed regulatory requirements, achieving about a 90% reduction in phosphorus levels, and are part of a broader £350 million commitment to improve wastewater treatment across 85 sites by 2025.
