ACCI Calls for Ranching Reforms to Prevent Farmer-Herder Conflicts in Nigeria

Chief Emeka Obegolu, President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), advocated for structured grazing reserves to mitigate farmer-herder conflicts in Nigeria. He emphasized that ranching reforms would improve security and rural development, addressing issues caused by open grazing that lead to communal clashes and farmland destruction.

Properly managed ranches are projected to boost meat and dairy productivity, create jobs, and reduce pressure on farmland. Obegolu urged private sector involvement to enhance efficiency and sustainability in livestock production, calling for strong political will to end open grazing.

The ACCI's goals for 2026 include protecting small businesses, supporting MSMEs, and promoting growth through pro-enterprise policies. He also highlighted the need for government support in establishing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicle conversion centers to reduce costs and facilitate cleaner energy adoption.
