African Treaty Prohibits Nuclear Weapons at US Diego Garcia Base

An African treaty has been established to prohibit nuclear weapons on the Chagos Islands, which includes the US military base at Diego Garcia. The treaty mandates compliance from Mauritius and prohibits the dumping of radioactive waste, while the US maintains opposition to any restrictions on its nuclear operations at the base. The Mauritian Deputy PM noted that the Pelindaba Treaty differentiates between storage and transit of nuclear weapons.
