Alliant Energy Approved to Build 720-Megawatt Bobcat Energy Center in Iowa

NATURAL GAS

Alliant Energy has received approval from the Iowa Utilities Commission to construct the 720-megawatt Bobcat Energy Center in Marshalltown. The natural gas-fired facility will be adjacent to the existing 650-megawatt Marshalltown Generating Station.

The project aims to enhance energy security and economic development in the region, supported by local organizations including the Marshall County Board of Supervisors and the Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce. The Bobcat Energy Center is designed for rapid response, capable of reaching full load in less than 15 minutes, and will complement the operations of the nearby generating station. Construction is expected to start in Q3 2026, with the facility slated to become operational in 2029.
