ANP Approves Brazil's First Wheat-Based Ethanol Plant by CB Bioenergia in Rio Grande do Sul
The Brazilian National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) has authorized CB Bioenergia to commence operations at Brazil's first wheat-based ethanol plant located in Santiago, Rio Grande do Sul. The approval, published in the official government gazette, follows an investment of approximately US$18.6 million in construction.
The plant aims to produce 100 tons of wheat daily and generate up to 12 million liters of hydrated ethanol annually. By 2027, production capacity is projected to increase to 45-50 million liters per year, requiring an additional investment of US$93 million. This project expands the agricultural crops utilized for biofuel production in Brazil, supported by record financing from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), which approved US$1.1 billion in loans for bioenergy projects in 2025.
