The Union government committee has approved the diversion of 442 hectares of forest land for a 1500 MW pumped storage project in Assam, impacting over 1,100 people. The project, costing ₹7273.23 crore, is situated near an elephant reserve in Karbi Anglong district and involves submerging 352 hectares. It includes a 50-metre lower dam and a 72-metre upper dam, both within elephant corridors.
