Arawak Cay Fish Fry Vendors Warned of Noise Impact from $179M LNG Plant Construction
Arawak Cay 'Fish Fry' vendors and Nassau harbour tourism operators may be adversely affected by the $179 million Island Power Producers LNG plant, which will supply electricity to nearby cruise ships. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) indicates that construction may render certain tourist areas temporarily inaccessible, and when operational, noise levels could exceed 60 decibels, negatively impacting local businesses and visitor experience.
The plant will be located on vacant land opposite the Fish Fry, raising concerns about noise pollution and its effects on the community. The EIA outlines planned mitigation measures, including soundproofing and silencers.
Construction activities will also disrupt maritime traffic, potentially affecting local fisheries and tourism. The project aims to enhance energy supply at the Nassau Cruise Port, with a timeline for initial operations set for July 2026.
