ASTCA CEO Confirms Google Cable Project Funding from U.S. Department of Defense

The U.S. Department of Defense will fund 40% of the $45 million Google Cable Project to enhance internet connectivity in American Samoa, with $15 million from the American Rescue Plan Act and $14 million from U.S.

Treasury funds. ASTCA CEO Folasaitu Sorepa Thomas emphasized the project's importance for improving digital infrastructure and educational opportunities, as it will provide significantly faster connectivity than the existing Hawaiki Cable. An agreement with Google has been signed, and negotiations are ongoing to optimize benefits for the territory.
