Australia Forecasts $383 Billion in Resources and Energy Export Earnings for 2025-26

NATURAL GAS

Australia's resources and energy sector is projected to generate export earnings of $383 billion in 2025-26, according to the December 2025 Resources and Energy Quarterly (REQ) by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. This figure represents a slight decrease from the previous year but an increase of 3.8% from earlier forecasts.

Export volumes are expected to grow, driven by strong gold and iron ore prices, which are balancing out declines in LNG and coal prices. Critical minerals export earnings are anticipated to rise from approximately $11 billion in 2024-25 to $14 billion by 2026-27, largely due to increased lithium, manganese, rare earths, and antimony exports. The 2025 Resources and Energy Major Projects (REMP) report indicates that 432 major projects are under development, with a total value of committed projects falling from $65 billion to $62 billion.
