Awendio Solaris to Invest C$1B in Solar Factory and R&D Hub Near Montreal

SOLAR ENERGY

Awendio Solaris plans to invest up to C$1 billion ($725 million) in a solar-cell and panel factory with an R&D center near Montreal, aiming for 2.5 GW of annual capacity. The facility will require approximately 32 MW from Hydro-Quebec, supplemented by on-site solar power.

The project is under scrutiny due to Hydro-Quebec's power supply limitations and is currently seeking financing. Backers include Awendio's management, U.S. family offices, and Canadian First Nations groups, with the National Bank of Canada forming a funding consortium. Awendio is also pursuing government aid and has partnered with RCT Solutions and AtkinsRéalis.
