Ballance Agri-Nutrients has secured a short-term gas supply for its Kapuni urea plant, which relies entirely on natural gas, extending through March 2025 after its long-term contract expires. In response to rising gas prices and to ensure production stability, the company has also increased imports of urea and other nitrogen products. The reliability of gas supply is anticipated to be a critical issue in New Zealand's upcoming election on November 7, 2025.
