Boko Haram Suicide Bombing Kills Five Soldiers in Borno State, Nigeria

DEFENSE

A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber killed five soldiers in the Pulka area of Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, on Sunday. The bomber detonated the device near a checkpoint after emerging from the Mandara mountains disguised as a passerby.

This incident followed airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force targeting armed elements in Kukawa Local Government Area, resulting in civilian casualties among fish transporters and the destruction of insurgent vehicles. The operation was part of Operation Hadin Kai, based on intelligence reports. In response to ongoing insurgency challenges, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa announced the withdrawal of soldiers from checkpoints to enhance direct confrontations with terrorists, citing significant degradation of terrorist capabilities across multiple regions.
