ByteDance to Sell TikTok US Entity, US Announces $11 Billion Arms Sales to Taiwan

DEFENSE

ByteDance has finalized a deal to sell its TikTok US entity, with the agreement expected to close on January 22. Oracle, Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX will collectively hold 45% of the U.S. entity, while nearly 20% will remain with ByteDance.

Separately, the U.S. government has announced $11 billion in arms sales to Taiwan, including advanced weaponry such as AH-1W helicopter parts, M109A7 howitzers, and Javelin missile systems. China has condemned this decision, citing violations of sovereignty and the one-China principle.

Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce of China confirmed the issuance of general licenses for rare-earth exports, with a record export of 6,958 tons reported in November. The Ministry of Public Security is promoting the Kunming dog breed for police use, highlighting the need for high-quality local police dogs amid global competition.
