Cadent to Replace 117-Year-Old Gas Pipe in Ipswich, Road Closures Planned
Cadent is replacing a 470-meter gas pipe on London Road, Portman Road, and Burlington Road in Ipswich, originally installed in 1908. The project will begin on January 5 and last until January 14, resulting in full road closures.
This replacement is part of a £91 million investment in the East of England, aimed at upgrading over 300 km of gas pipes. A diversion will be implemented using Crescent Road, Portman Road, and Handford Road during the closure.
The project aims to enhance the gas network's reliability, reduce methane emissions, and support the transition to renewable gases. Future phases will involve traffic lights along London Road to the junction of Elliott Street, affecting additional roads including Stevenson Road, Benezet Street, Wilberforce Road, and Bulwer Road.
