Cailabs and DataPath Partner to Develop Transportable Optical Ground Stations

DEFENSE

Cailabs has entered into a partnership with DataPath, valued up to $60.82 million, to develop transportable optical ground stations (T-OGS). The agreement includes the integration of Cailabs' optical instruments onto DataPath's ground stations, covering production, spare parts, logistics, and support for commercial and government users.

A signing ceremony took place on December 15 during the DoD Commercial Satcom Workshop in Arlington, Virginia. Cailabs aims to rapidly deploy T-OGS in challenging environments, enhancing optical communication capabilities that are harder to detect and jam compared to RF communications.

The partnership responds to increased demand for resilient communication systems amid concerns over radio detection and jamming. Potential applications include downlinking Earth Observation data in conflict areas and supporting defense communication networks.
