Calcium Ammonium Nitrate Additive Reduces Emissions and Increases Biogas Yield

NATURAL GASBIOFUELS

A calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) additive has been shown to significantly reduce methane emissions from manure storage by up to 97% and enhance biogas yields by up to 11%, according to research from the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy and Alzchem Trostberg GmbH. The additive also decreases nitrogen losses by 96%, potentially lowering mineral fertilizer costs by 22% in high livestock density areas. The study is supported by Germany's Ministry of Food and Agriculture through the Climate and Transformation Fund.
