Canadian researchers, in collaboration with Caltech and Fermilab, successfully demonstrated quantum teleportation and entanglement distribution over urban fiber-optic networks in Calgary, achieving over 90% entanglement fidelity across 44 kilometers. Funded by Canada’s National Quantum Strategy, the project aims to integrate quantum networks with existing fiber infrastructure to enhance data security against quantum computing threats. Future phases will focus on expanding metropolitan networks and creating hybrid systems with satellite links, while addressing challenges such as photon loss and low teleportation rates.
