Canadian Mennonite University Launches Innovative Geothermal Energy System

GEOTHERMAL

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is set to unveil a groundbreaking geothermal energy system this weekend, marking a first for post-secondary institutions in Manitoba. The $8.4 million project features an underground network of pipes that utilizes the earth's stable temperature to efficiently heat and cool campus buildings.

University president Cheryl Pauls emphasized the importance of this initiative for achieving net-zero emissions, as heating and cooling account for 85% of CMU's carbon footprint. The project, supported by various donors and government funding, is expected to reduce carbon output by at least 25%.
