The Canada Energy Regulator (CER) has recommended approval for Westcoast Energy GP Inc.'s Sunrise Expansion Program, which aims to increase natural gas capacity by 17% in British Columbia to meet rising demand. The project involves constructing 11 pipeline loops and upgrading facilities to support the Woodfibre LNG export facility, with 47 conditions set for compliance regarding safety and environmental monitoring. The recommendation is now under review by the Government of Canada's Governor in Council, following extensive input from 63 intervenors, including Indigenous communities.
