The City of Charleston is advancing the Battery Extension project, initiated to enhance flood protection on the peninsula and authorized by Congress in 2018. Currently in the preconstruction phase, the project targets flooding and rising sea levels, which are projected to increase by 14 inches over the next 25 years. Community engagement workshops are planned for spring or summer 2024 to gather public input.
