Cheatham County Residents Honor John Rich for Opposing TVA Methane Gas Plant

NATURAL GAS

Cheatham County, Tennessee, community members are honoring country artist John Rich for his role in opposing the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) proposed methane gas plant. The TVA had purchased a 286-acre site in 2020 and announced plans for a facility in 2021, prompting significant local opposition due to concerns over property values and environmental impact.

Rich joined the opposition in May 2025, leveraging his platform to gain national attention, which included conversations with the President. On July 15, 2025, TVA announced it would no longer pursue the site for a 900-megawatt facility.

At a recognition event, Cheatham County officials expressed gratitude for Rich's involvement, although they acknowledged ongoing concerns regarding TVA's ownership of the land. A resolution will honor Rich and others who contributed to the pushback against the project.
