City of Beatrice Advances Natural Gas Power Plant Project Amid Rising Energy Costs

NATURAL GASDATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The City of Beatrice will proceed with plans to build a natural gas-fired electric generation station to enhance power capacity and sell excess power. The city council approved the project, citing rising power costs driven by increased demand and past supply shortages.

The estimated cost is up to $400 million, funded through revenue bonds, without general tax support. Initial steps include forming partnerships for power purchases and obtaining approval from the Southwest Power Pool. The city is collaborating with Burns McDonnell and HDR Engineering.
