The confirmation of five Trump-nominated inspectors general has raised concerns about oversight within federal agencies. Without independent inspectors general, there are fears that the Defense Department may not investigate the awarding of the $2 billion 'Golden Dome' missile defense shield contract to SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, or assess potential espionage risks from Qatar's gift of a jet to the US Air Force. The Defense Department Office of Inspector General has stated its policy is not to confirm or deny the status of investigations.
