Cuyahoga County Jail Cost Approaches $1 Billion with Geothermal System Addition

GEOTHERMAL

Cuyahoga County's new jail in Garfield Heights is projected to cost nearly $1 billion, largely due to a $20 million geothermal system addition that raises expenses to $962 million. Construction is set to begin in spring 2024, with plans to issue bonds by June 2024, and the facility is expected to open in 2029. Funding will be sourced from a 40-year extension of a quarter percent sales tax established in 2007.
