Delaware's Port of Wilmington Advances Container Terminal Project After Key Regulatory Hurdle Cleared
DEFENSE
Delaware's Port of Wilmington has made progress on its container terminal project after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted a crucial exception, allowing the state to bypass a requirement from the Port of Philadelphia.
This decision enables the pursuit of construction permits for a new port at a former chemical site, with the project expected to create thousands of jobs and supported by substantial taxpayer funding. The initiative follows previous legal challenges and the transition to a new operator, Enstructure, after the former operator, Gulftainer, failed to meet financial expectations.
