Demolition of Homes in Cades Cove, Florissant, Begins Due to Radioactive Waste Cleanup

DEFENSE

Demolition has begun in Cades Cove, Florissant, where six homes are being removed to address radioactive waste beneath the neighborhood. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' FUSRAP program oversees the cleanup, marking the first instance of residential demolition under this initiative.

All families have been relocated, and safety measures, including air monitoring, will be implemented during the process. The project aims for completion by fall 2026, with waste transported to a disposal site in Utah, while Coldwater Creek cleanup is projected to finish by 2038.
