Denmark's Defence Ministry Acquires Ship for Underwater Infrastructure Surveillance
The Danish Ministry of Defence's Materiel and Procurement Agency (FMI) has contracted Danish Navigare Capital Partners A/S to purchase a ship, named Norwind Helm, for monitoring critical underwater infrastructure. This acquisition aims to enhance Denmark's maritime surveillance capabilities, addressing the political agreement under the Defence Agreement 2024-2033 to protect underwater assets like energy facilities, cables, and pipelines.
The Norwind Helm, a former civilian vessel used for wind farm operations, will be adapted to operate underwater drones and sensors. Delivery is expected in 2026, coinciding with personnel training. Funding comes from the current defense settlement and the Acceleration Fund.
