DHL and Air France KLM Cargo Expand Emissions Reduction Framework for Air Freight by 2030

SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL

DHL Global Forwarding and Air France KLM Martinair Cargo have expanded their partnership with a new framework agreement to accelerate decarbonization in air freight. The agreement builds on a 2022 collaboration and introduces a governance framework for emission reduction rights.

DHL has signed a work order for 35,000 metric tons of well-to-wheel CO₂e emission reduction rights, facilitating the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This model allows for independent allocation of emissions reductions, addressing the uneven access to SAF across routes.

The partnership aligns with DHL's target to achieve 30% SAF use by 2030 and reflects a shift towards collaborative, system-level solutions in the air freight industry. The agreement was formalized in Amsterdam by executives from both companies and emphasizes long-term collaboration to meet sustainability goals.
