Disarmament Operations Conclude in Sam-Ouandja, Central African Republic
In December 2025, Sam-Ouandja, Central African Republic, witnessed disarmament operations where armed group combatants surrendered their weapons. The two-day event, conducted from December 9 to 10, was led by the National Disarmament Implementing Unit (UEPNDDRR) with support from the United Nations peacekeeping mission (MINUSCA).
This follows a historical visit in February 2023 by CAR officials and UN representatives, marking the first government presence in over 20 years. Disarmament efforts have expanded since a 2025 agreement between the CAR Government and armed groups UPC and 3R, leading to successful operations in various regions.
The ongoing initiatives aim to restore state authority, enhance security, and promote local development in the area. The Sub-Prefect of Ouandja-Kotto emphasized the importance of community efforts to ensure lasting peace and cohesion.
